Challenges + Opportunities + Learnings

Challenge: Navigating Discoverability. Addressing discoverability issues in WebMD's mobile interface posed challenges, including finding the balance between offering comprehensive health information and maintaining a simple user experience, as well as meeting diverse user needs while ensuring consistency.

Opportunities: Despite these challenges, the project presented opportunities to gain valuable insights into user behavior and preferences, emphasizing the importance of user-centered design and ongoing testing.

Learnings: Through continuous refinement and collaboration with stakeholders, I learned to prioritize key features, simplify navigation, and improve content presentation to enhance the overall user experience effectively. I have since applied these insights to my current work, ensuring that user needs remain at the forefront of design decisions and that ongoing testing and refinement are integral parts of the development process.

CASE STUDY

Starting with The Problem

WebMD's mobile interface encountered discoverability challenges stemming from navigation design shortcomings. Users struggled to locate desired features and information, hampering the user experience. Addressing these issues became a priority to ensure easy access to health resources. Through iterative design improvements, efforts were made to streamline navigation and enhance usability.

Who is the user?

Research + Methodology

Throughout this project, we collaborated with the New York team. After a few review sessions with internal stakeholders and minor tweaks we finalized the navigation.

The final WebMD navigation

The upgraded navigation on the WebMD mobile site makes finding content easier. Thanks to thorough planning and research, users can now access key features more easily and navigate the site faster. This results in a smoother and more intuitive browsing experience overall.

The WebMD navigation menu (or hamburger menu) contains the main navigation options in a manner that makes them visible upon request. The main advantage of utilizing this menu is that it can contain a fairly large number of navigation options in a tiny space and can also easily support submenus, if needed. This kind of navigation also has the advantage of stealing a minimum amount of space from content.

The search bar is easily accessible from the masthead, allowing users find any content quick.
